Roses and a mushroom"thingie"
Went to the botanical gardens early yesterday morning with Dawn. We'd had Game Night the night before and neither of us nightshift workers (aka, vampires, zombies or artists) were quite ready to go to bed. As soon as the park opened (5am) we were there with the dog. We took a nice long walk around the lake and finished up here in the Rose Garden. All the rain we have been getting this year has resulted in an explosion of blooms.
I really wish I knew the diffrent names of all the roses they have there. Mostly I can just say "Oooh, look at the pretty pink one!"
I though this one was near perfect. The color got washed out a bit though.
I was trying to get the dew on the petels here. I had forgotten my brand new digi came so was using my phone camera again. lol
This bloom is HUGE. It's bigger than my hand! (Uh, please note: I do have very small hands, but still!)
I like the way the petels were scattered everywhere too. We'd had some rain, so there was a carpet of fallen pettels all over the place.
PURPLE! This is easily one of my favorites.
These climbing roses are the most amazing fushia, pink color. My little phone camera did not do it justice.
They have stone arches that are sort of the gate-ways between one area and the next. This one is covered in climbing roses. That's Dawn's hand in the corner.
This would make such a fantasic water color! Someday when I take a water color class I will paint this. lol!
Here is the "thingie." Okay, I THINK this is some kind of mushroom or possibly a spent seed pod of some sort. But it looked neat so I took a picture. It seemed to have a fleshy, mushroomie texture but I have never seen a mushroom so slender or so small. The top was basicaly translucent! (Can you tell I'm not so good at flora?)
All in all this was a good walk. Even though poor Moo was not at all impresssed because for some reason I wouldn't let her in the flowers beds under the rose bushes to sniff at all the wonderful smells...
Also, when we were on the way to King Soopers we saw some kind of bird of prey on a fence post. I have no idea what kind it was and since I was driving, no photo op, but it was beautiful!
Happy Fourth of July!!! (yes, I know the colors are backwards! My brain flipped them. I was tired!)
